Myrtle Beach, SC, January 17, 2025 – Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is proud to announce a historic milestone, with 2024 marking the highest passenger numbers in the airport’s history. This achievement reflects the Grand Strand's growing reputation as a premier travel destination and desirable place to live, alongside the airport’s unwavering commitment to exceptional customer service.
In 2024, MYR welcomed 3,837,052 arriving and departing passengers, a nearly 14% increase compared to the previous year. This impressive growth stems from MYR’s air service development strategy and close collaboration with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, a key partner in promoting the region and securing new air service opportunities.
Enhanced Connectivity: New Airlines and Expanded Destinations
One of the highlights of 2024 was the arrival of Breeze Airways, offering travelers affordable and convenient access to seven destinations in its first year, with plans for future growth. United Airlines also launched nonstop service to Denver, Colorado, providing increased connectivity to the farthest nonstop destination served by MYR. Additionally, Frontier Airlines expanded the airport’s route network with new flights to Cleveland, Ohio, providing greater convenience for those traveling to and from the Midwest.
“We are thrilled to celebrate this record-breaking year for Myrtle Beach International Airport,” said Judi Olmstead, Director of Airports for Horry County. “This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our team, the support of our airline partners, and the enduring appeal of Myrtle Beach as a world-class destination and a great place to call home. Over the past few years, we’ve focused on diversifying our airline options and providing competitive fares. This strategy has proven successful, with three new airlines joining MYR since 2021 and continued growth from existing partners. These efforts have strengthened our air service portfolio, ensuring long-term success for MYR and our community. We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of our travelers and look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead.”
Supporting Regional Growth Through Expansion
In June 2024, MYR began construction on a major terminal expansion project, set to open in late 2025. This project will add six gates to Concourse A and include updates to flooring, signage, restrooms, and new food, beverage, and retail options. To further accommodate growing demand, construction began on a new long-term economy parking lot south of the terminal. The new lot, slated to open in spring 2025, will add over 1,200 parking spaces, easing peak-period congestion.
National Recognition: Leading the Way in Excellence
MYR earned the title of #1 Best Small Airport in the U.S. in the 2024 USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. This prestigious recognition highlights the airport’s dedication to exceptional service, modern facilities, and a seamless travel experience for millions of passengers annually.
Looking Ahead: Commitment to Growth and Community
In partnership with Horry County Government and community stakeholders, MYR remains committed to enhancing travel options and improving the airport experience. As a vital gateway to the Grand Strand, MYR offers seamless connectivity and high-quality service to residents and visitors alike. By focusing on air service development, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence, the airport continues to solidify its position as one of the fastest growing in the region.
"We take great pride in Myrtle Beach International Airport's record-breaking year, which underscores its essential role in connecting our community and fostering regional growth," said Barry Spivey, Horry County Administrator. "MYR is an invaluable asset, and we appreciate the community's support in achieving this success."
