Myrtle Beach International Airport Fire Department to Conduct Annual Training

The Myrtle Beach International Airport Fire Department will be conducting live fire training daily from Monday 11/29/2021 through Sunday 12/5/2021 (times will vary by day).  FAA regulations require that all airport firefighters receive live fire training at least every 12 consecutive calendar months.  In the past, the fire department has had to travel to other cities to complete this training.  This year, the fire department was able to have the required training prop delivered to MYR.

The fire department is leasing a unit known as a Mobile Aircraft Fire Trainer (MAFT) from 139Fire, Inc. for the training.  The prop will provide personnel with the opportunity to complete realistic, repeatable and safe training evolutions.

The unit is propane fired and the fire department will strictly be using water for extinguishment; no foam or dry chemical agents will be used.  The training will occur on the west side of the airport and will be attended throughout the week by multiple fire departments from the region.  There will be a number of fire and emergency vehicles on location during this timeframe.
