Myrtle Beach International Airport(MYR) To Host Large‐Scale Emergency Response Training

Myrtle Beach, SC – August 27, 2025 – Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) will conduct a full-scale emergency response exercise on Thursday, September 4, 2025, to assess and strengthen the airport’s emergency procedures, capabilities, and coordination with partner agencies.

In accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements, airports are required to conduct a full-scale exercise every three years. This year’s event will involve approximately 150 participants, including airport employees, firefighters, paramedics, regional medical examiners, airline personnel, and emergency responders from surrounding jurisdictions.

The exercise will simulate a large-scale response to an aircraft incident on the airfield. The exercise area will be closed to the public for the duration of the event. Airport operations will not be impacted.

Participating organizations include all departments within the Horry County Department of Airports: Airport Administration, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Airport & Airfield Maintenance, Aircraft Services, and General Aviation. Mutual aid partners include Horry County Emergency Management, Horry County Police – Airport Division, Horry County Fire Rescue, Myrtle Beach Fire Department, City of Myrtle Beach Citizens Fire & Police Academies, FAA Air Traffic Control, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), American Red Cross,
U.S. Coast Guard, multiple airlines, Conway Medical Center, and Grand Strand Health.

community,” said Judi Olmstead, Director of Airports. “These exercises allow us to refine our emergency plans, build stronger relationships with our response partners, and ensure we can respond quickly and effectively should a real incident occur.”
