The Myrtle Beach International Airport Breaks Ground on Concourse A Terminal Expansion Project

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - June 5, 2024 - The Myrtle Beach International Airport has marked a significant moment in its history with the commencement of the highly anticipated Concourse A expansion project. This transformative project, celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony earlier today, is set to redefine the airport's capabilities and enhance the travel experience for all.

Key stakeholders, community leaders, and airport staff attended the event and expressed excitement about the airport's future. The long-awaited project was initially planned for 2018 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Construction will be completed over the next 18 months, increasing the airport's total number of gates from 12 to 18.  Other features will include revamped restrooms, new flooring, improved signage, and new concessions throughout the existing terminal.

One of the fastest-recovering destinations from the COVID-19 pandemic, Myrtle Beach International Airport has experienced remarkable growth over the last five years. It has since welcomed three new airlines, bringing its total to ten, and serves 3.4 million passengers annually. The much-anticipated expansion will cater to the changing needs of the rapidly growing population and tourism industry in the Grand Strand.

The increased gate capacity resulting from the Concourse A expansion project will benefit the airport's growing number of passengers and appeal to current and potential new airline partners. This expansion will allow the airport to expand its offerings beyond the current 50+ nonstop destinations, further improving MYR's connectivity and appeal.

"Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards providing a world-class airport experience," said Airports Director Judi Olmstead. "We are thrilled to offer our guests a new and improved terminal and are grateful for your support as we embark on this exciting endeavor."

The expansion project is estimated to be completed in December 2025, with phased milestones ensuring minimal disruption to airport operations during construction.  Once completed, the expanded A Concourse will accommodate the increasing influx of passengers and serve as a beacon of progress for the Grand Strand region.
