NEWS RELEASE

Wings for All® Lands at Myrtle Beach International Airport

The Myrtle Beach International Airport recently co-hosted a Wings for All event in coordination with The Arc of the United States, The Arc of South Carolina, Spirit Airlines and Enterprise Holdings.

Wings for All is a safe travel ‘rehearsal’ experience, created to alleviate some of the stress that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families experience when traveling by air.

During the event, participants go through the check-in and security screening process, followed by a brief wait in the gate hold area before the best part – boarding a plane!  While onboard, the flight crew presents the aircraft’s features, in-flight safety protocols and take-off procedures.

Prior to boarding, we held a reception complete with visits from a few of our P.E.T.S Therapy Dog squad volunteers, dinner from Chick-Fil-A and special treats courtesy of Gingerbread Way Bakery.  Our generous sponsors also provided special swag bags with some really(!) cool items.

We offer our sincere gratitude to our partnering organizations and sponsors:

The Arc of the United States, The Arc of South Carolina, Spirit Airlines, Enterprise Holdings, The Transportation Security Administration, The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and CVB, SOS Care, Lead with Love Training Co. and Gingerbread Way Bakery.

Additionally, we’d like to thank our special speakers: Karen Riordan, President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce & CVB, Kahla Elliston, Senior Manager/Compliance at Spirit Airlines, TJ Watkins, Group Operations Manager at Enterprise Holdings and SC Senator Greg Hembree, District 28.

Planning an event of this magnitude couldn’t have been done without the hard work and support of everyone involved and we appreciate the support in hosting a great event!
